Although functional success is the primary goal in posterior implant restorations, soft tissue management, particularly interproximal papilla shaping, is gaining increasing clinical importance. While the papilla in this region may not be as visibly critical as in the anterior zone, its absence can lead to food impaction, phonetic issues, and reduced patient satisfaction, affecting both function and biology.

From a prosthetic standpoint, proper papilla shaping:

Supports healthy tissue integration by respecting the biologic width,

Facilitates oral hygiene,

Enables restoration designs that mimic natural tooth morphology,

Enhances contact and contour harmony with adjacent teeth or implants,

Contributes to long-term peri-implant tissue stability.

Modern transmucosal, conical connection systems (e.g., Prama) help optimize papillary support even in posterior areas, improving both functional and aesthetic outcomes. Thus, papilla shaping is not merely an aesthetic step, but a critical prosthetic measure for maintaining peri-implant health
